To quote Inigo Montoya - “I do not think it means what you think it means.” This statement from the film The Princess Bride is funny, but when we talk of Bible verses, there are many passages often quoted, but misunderstood. To value the Word as inerrant and immutable is vital, but to say we do while misapplying Scripture can be embarrassing at best, heretical at worst. For instance, does it actually require two or more people to be present for God to show up? Is this his quorum requirement? Are we truly not supposed to judge others? On Sunday, August 27 we will launch our first Sunday Seminar with our pastors and other leaders hosting a panel discussion on such verses and how they are most often misinterpreted with insight for others on how to pick up on such issues and apply solid biblical theology to other passages and sayings.
Sunday Seminars are a time of teaching for the church family at First Baptist Church and friends. Topics on doctrine, Gospel-centeredness, church life, theology, worldviews, and more will be led by Pastors of FBCOP and guests.
