Associate Pastor Mike Godfrey leads us through a study of heaven. While there is much in scripture regarding heaven, there are few sermons preached on the subject. In fact, many people develop their understanding of heaven based on extra-biblical and cultural images.

Our special guest for this Sunday Seminar is Dr. Timothy Paul Jones. Dr. Jones serves as the Vice President of Doctoral Studies and the Chair of the Department of Apologetics, Ethics, and Philosophy at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. At this seminar, Dr. Jones addressed how apologetics (the defense of the truth of Christianity) is affirmed by the history of the church. Doubts regarding Christianity today are grounded in an area much different than that of just a few decades ago. Dr. Jones states, “The doubts today don’t start with skepticism about Christianity’s miraculous claims; they begin with questions about the very morality of Christianity.”

Solomon is despairing over the oppression, isolation, and corruption he sees everywhere "under the sun." In this sermon Pastor David focuses on the redemption made possible through Christ as the healing hope for all that creates such despair.

This passage is most notable today as being the majority of the lyrics to the Pete Seeger song "Turn, Turn, Turn." Yet, this is not simply a Woodstock-era pop song. Pastor David looks at what is revealed in this passage and how it leads to hope in Christ.

How does God take someone who hates his life, hates his job, has moved from disgust to despair and lead them to life? Pastor David looks at Solomon's moment here in Ecclesiastes 2. It is hard.
